Meteonorm Observation
Coverage and data sources
To ensure near-global coverage, real-time satellite data from four major geostationary weather satellites is combined:
- GOES-East
- MSG (Meteosat Second Generation)
- IODC (Indian Ocean Data Coverage)
- Himawari
The integration of these sources results in a continuous and harmonized dataset, covering longitudes from 130°W to 180°E and latitudes from 60°S to 60°N. This enables reliable irradiance monitoring for the vast majority of the inhabited and solar-active regions on Earth.
The satellite data is used to derive the radiation parameters. It is complemented by the numerical weather prediction model GFS for non-radiation parameters and in regions outside of the area covered by the satellites.
